The Bridging Project
Interested in studying medicine or dentistry and looking to develop the skills needed for a future career in healthcare?
The Bridging Project connects students across the UK with MAA’s maternal health initiatives in Bangladesh and the UK. Our goal is to strengthen your understanding of healthcare while helping you develop essential skills in teamwork, case presentation and communication—all of which are important for a future career in healthcare.
The programme is completely free and designed for students aged 16–18 who are interested in studying medicine or dentistry.
What You Will Gain
MAA will deliver interactive sessions in which you will work as part of a team, complete activities and solve problems together.
Through the programme, you will:
- Develop your teamwork and leadership skills
- Strengthen your communication and presentation skills
- Learn how to analyse and present healthcare case studies, similar to activities undertaken at medical school
- Explore maternal health challenges in the UK and Bangladesh
- Gain a deeper understanding of medicine and dentistry
- Learn about the work of an international maternal health charity
Who Can Participate?
The programme is open to students aged 16–18 across the UK who are interested in studying medicine or dentistry.
Students from anywhere in the UK can apply, as every main programme session will take place online.
When Will It Take Place?
The Bridging Project will begin in November and run for approximately 12 weeks, with one session taking place every fortnight.
The complete programme schedule will be shared with successful applicants.
Where Will It Take Place?
All main programme sessions will take place online, so you do not need to live in London to participate.
The dates and joining details for each session will be shared with successful applicants.
In-Person Session
Students who successfully complete the programme may also be offered the opportunity to attend an in-person session with members of the MAA team.
During this session, students will be introduced to basic clinical activities, such as measuring vital signs, and receive practical advice on applying to study medicine or dentistry.
